Watering Cans
Watering Cans

Several years ago, while laid up with a skiing injury, I was faced with spending a considerable amount of time on the sofa. I am not very good at lying around, so I had to spend this forced period of convalescence doing something. At the same time, I had just begun using hand applique in my quilts, so I seized the opportunity to dive into my new obsession, and I haven't stopped since.

Having a bright and colorful quilt to work on every day is my salvation. Hand applique is like meditation to me; it gives me much-needed time to sit, reflect, and relax during and after a hectic day. In this busy world, I feel it is important to carve out a bit of downtime every day. I love that applique can be done in total silence, or while watching a favorite movie or listening to a good book on tape-whatever suits my mood on any given day.

Patterns for most of these quilts are in my book, Hand Appliqued Quilts.
